History of Toronto FC

Toronto FC burst onto the Major League Soccer (MLS) scene in 2007, becoming the third Canadian team to join the league. Founded by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE), the club was born out of a desire to bring professional soccer to Canada's largest city, Toronto.

In 2017, the club made history by becoming the first Canadian team to win the MLS Cup, completing a historic treble by also claiming the Supporters' Shield and the Canadian Championship. This achievement solidified their place as a dominant force in North American soccer.

The 2026 Fifa World Cup 2026

BMO Field in Toronto, Canada, will serve as a host venue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring six matches: five group stage games and one round of 16 contest. In compliance with FIFA tournament regulations, the stadium will temporarily be renamed "Toronto Stadium".

To prepare for the World Cup, the venue is undergoing extensive renovations and expansion. These improvements will temporarily increase the stadium's capacity to 45,000 seats, specifically to meet the tournament's requirements. This marks a significant milestone for BMO Field, as it will be the first time the stadium hosts a FIFA World Cup match.
